No Indifferent Place

I ran across a quote today that sums up my belief that we, as humans and creators, have an obligation to make our daily lives rich and beautiful. Says poet Rainer Maria Rilke:

“If your everyday life seems poor,

don't blame it; blame yourself;

admit to yourself that you are not enough of a poet

to call forth its riches; because for the creator

there is no poverty and no indifferent place.”

If we can recognize that every one of us has the ability and personal responsibility to create places that matter, that ultimately give our lives and lives around us meaning, we can go a long way toward rectifying many of the profound problems of our world.
